He is the founder and former CEO of Binance, the largest cryptocurrency exchange today in terms of volume.

His resignation came as part of a $4 billion settlement with U.S. agencies. This decision was made in the wake of Zhao pleading guilty to charges related to breaking U.S. anti-money laundering laws. The settlement and his resignation are part of the resolution of a prolonged investigation into Binance's operations by U.S. authorities
