Who is Satoshi Nakamoto
"Satoshi Nakamoto" is the anonymous author and creator of Bitcoin believed to be a pseudonym of a person or persons. Still, to this day, it is unknown who "Satoshi Nakamoto" is/was despite a lot of online speculation and theories.
The name Satoshi Nakamoto had been used prior to the well-documented release of the original white paper, titled "Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System". The name was previously seen on online cryptography message boards and believed to be the same person or entity.
The Bitcoin white paper was published over 15 years ago, on October 31, 2008, and outlined a decentralized peer-to-peer protocol that was cryptographically secure. Something that had been tried before but this was different in that it was entirely decentralized and trustless. The timing of the release of the whitepaper was also at the height of frustration with the traditional financial system after the fallout of big financial institutions failing or being bailed out.
It would not be until January 3, 2009, that Satoshi Nakamoto, officially launched the blockchain and mined the very first block; known as the genesis block. The genesis block acts as the very starting point of the entire blockchain. The genesis block also contained the text "The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks.". This is a direct reference to the 2008 financial crisis and references two UK-specific themes. The Times Newspaper and the UK Chancellor. This along with British English used in the whitepaper suggests that Satoshi Nakamoto may have been from the UK.
On April 23, 2011, Satoshi sent a farewell email to a fellow Bitcoin developer stating that “I’ve moved on to other things,” whilst assuring that the future of Bitcoin was “in good hands.” To this he has not been heard from since. A remarkable feat in today's world - the mysterious Satoshi Nakamoto still hasn't been revealed.
